District Governor Lirio P. Sandoval

District Governor Lirio Sandoval considers himself as a student for life. His parents were both public school teachers. His sister was also a public high school principal. And to cap it all, his wife Glo is also an educator. She used to be a public elementary class room teacher until she was promoted as Educational Supervisor at the Division of City Schools, Marikina.

He studied in public schools starting from Balara Elementary School in Quezon City, Pedro Guevarra Memorial High School in Sta. Cruz, Laguna, where he was born, and the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City where he finished Bachelor of Arts, Major in Economics.

He started working at the age of nineteen, right after he finished college, and worked with several companies until 1984. That year was a turning point in his life. Out of work after Reader's Digest closed its office in the Philippines, he ventured together with some friends and colleagues, put up A-Z Direct Marketing, Inc. to distribute and sell international magazines. The company has since grown to where it is right now.

As a person he has learned from his parents the value of honesty, hard work and education. He has also learned to be positive in his outlook. Instead of feeling depressed about the inconveniences of having a modest status in life, he even became more determined to succeed. Even up to now he looks at problems as opportunities rather than worry about them.

He has been a member of Rotary since 1989. He was the President of the Rotary Club of Marikina Central in 1995-1996 and has occupied several district positions since then. He was a District Governor Group Representative, chairman of different committees, Chairman of PETS and District Assembly, among others. He became a Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Marikina South in 2008.

He is also active in several trade organizations such as the Book Development Association of the Philippines where he has been President since 1998. He was also President of the Mandaluyong Chamber of Commerce, Direct Marketing Association of the Philippines and Trustee of Filipinas Copyright Licensing, Inc.

Together with his spouse, the former Gloria Chu, who has a Doctorate in Elementary Education, they raised a family of four boys who are all professionals and all have graduate studies. Gil is presently Marketing Manager of A-Z Direct Marketing Inc. and is married to the former Fritzie Mayanguitan and they have two daughters. Dax, single, is a medical doctor and is currently finishing his fellowship in Nephrology. Jim is the IT Manager at A-Z and is married to Karen Espena and they have two sons. The youngest, Rex, single, is presently employed as Senior Territory Manager at Manila Water.
