PETS 2010
DGA Lito Bermundo, RC San Juan North
“The preparations done by the Host Club for PETS this year set the tone and pace of the quality of preparations we are doing for the next rotary year. They have definitely raised the bar of standards for the hosting of a very important Rotary Training like PETS.”
This is how District Governor-Elect Jun Farcon described PETS 2010, which was held on March 20-21 at the seminar-friendly Hotel Kimberly in Tagaytay City.
Participants included some Past District Governors to underscore the importance of the seminar. Outstanding discussion leaders from District 3810, District 3820, District 3860 and home-grown District 3800 were chosen to handle the various topics.
A Different Beginning:
The participants did not mind the distance. They started arriving as early as 6:15am to beat the registration and check-in time of 7:30-8:30am. The pre-registration / no on-site registration rule was observed avoiding the perennial clogging of Rotarians paying on-site. They were greeted with music and songs by a local rondalla and enjoyed great fellowship over hot morning coffee, chocolate, lomi, and native delicacies.
The District Governor:
After a brief and warm welcome remark by overall PETS Chairman, AG Lito Bermundo, District Governor Rudy San Felipe delivered his inspirational message in a straight from the heart tone, paying tribute to all his visionary Rotarians who answered the call of taking the future of rotary in their hands.Gov. Rudy was given a warm ovation from a visibly touched and appreciative audience.
The Governor-Elect:
Delivering his first major address, DGE Jun wowed the participants with his largely extemporaneous speech on the many good things that a well-prepared and well-trained Presidents-Elect along side their Assistant Governors can do in improving lives in their communities and issued the challenge to reach out to other communities as well.
DGE Jun unveiled the new RI Theme, “Building Communities …Bridging Continents.” He referred to the Presidents-Elect and District Officers for RY 2010-2011 as his Global Team.
Using the new RI theme as the central focus of his message, DGE Jun exhorted his Global Team, that in order to adequately respond to the call of the RI Theme, they must lead their Clubs to be Bigger, Better and Bolder.
The Speakers:
The selection of outstanding discussion leaders, both plenary and break-out, made all the big difference in contributing to the remarkable success of the two-day training seminar, covering the following topics:
Role & Responsibilities of Presidents:
Working with Club/District Leaders:
Club Administration:

Team Building:
Team Building exercises have become a feature of PETS: DGEL Zeny Farcon invited a Human Resource Practitioner, Mr. Emanuel Hio Jr for this activity.. Jun Hio was able to engage enthusiastically different groupings with a sense of team challenge and collective fun approach in solving them.
The District Theme Song:
As the rhythm of hectic discussion sessions needed to be broken, DGE Jun called on District Song Arranger, Raffy Amaranto to begin teaching the Global Team the new district theme song… lyrics and hand actions. This was a fun rehearsal and: the Global Team had to be reminded by the dutiful marshalls of RC San Juan North that they have exceeded their time.
The Fellowship:
As a much needed break from the day’s activities, the Rotarians were treated to a dinner celebration with a festive Hawaiian motif. To add color, DGEL Zeny provided leis for everyone. A four man band played non-stop, inducing the participants to take to the dance floor. The Presidents – Elect and incoming district officers, grouped themselves by zones, made impromptu presentations of Hawaiian songs and dance numbers. There were declared winners but the fellowship event is best remembered for the enthusiastic participation of everyone.
The Participants’ Evaluation:
The success of PETS 2010 is best measured by the feedback from the participants on the effectiveness of the discussion leaders, the training methods applied and the training materials used. The feedback from the participants was a resounding “Yes, we became knowledgeable after PETS” and “Yes, we agree that the discussion leaders were motivational and the training methods and materials used were effective.”
Time to say Goodbye:
The two-day activities ended the same grand way it started. Governor - Elect Jun Farcon and DGEL Zeny distributed personalized ditrict barongs and thanked the participants for what he assessed as a productive attendance and praised the Rotary Club San Juan North for a hosting job very well done.
