SK Anti-Drug Abuse Patrol

Three (3) Kawasaki 125 cc. motorcycles with fabricated sidecars, comprising the SK Anti-Drug Abuse Patrol, were formally turned over to the Barangay Council on 20 December 2008 during the latter’s Christmas Party at the Barangay Hall grounds. On hand to receive the 3 units were Kap. Belen Cruz, all the Kagawads and barangay officers, members of the police force, barangay tanods, barangay employees, and guests.
During the turnover ceremonies, SK Chair Iya Parungao & SK Secretary Nikolai Adirano read the terms and conditions of the turnover of the motorcycles (maintenance, use, repair, gasoline, budgetary requirements, reports, registration, etc.), after which Kap. Belen gratefully and enthusiastically signed the SK’s turnover letter in front of the more than 100 people present. A few days before, the motorcycles as well as the newly-opened Public Safety and Security Office (located in front of the Barangay Hall) were duly blessed in simple ceremonies.
The SK Anti-Drug Abuse Patrol are currently being used by the barangay tanods and police to supplement the roving teams in the battle against drug pushers and criminality in the community, and to concretely augment the barangay’s crime prevention campaign to have an effective peace and order campaign. After all, in Barangay Concepcion Dos, WE WORK HARD, WE WORK WELL, and WE WORK TOGETHER!

KK4

On the evening of 13 December 2008, also at the Barangay Hall Roof Deck, more than 80 young residents of the barangay had the time of their lives when they attended the fourth Katipunan ng Kabataan General Assembly for the year. The meeting also served as the SK’s much-awaited Christmas Party.
Aside from the usual reports, McDonald’s food and drinks, great raffle prizes, and fun games, the Assembly also saw the SK give out special awards to all those who had particularly helped it throughout the year – from Barangay Kap. Belen and the other barangay kagawads, the DILG, PYM, and Rotary, to even the KKK and the SK Federation. Special numbers were performed by the Asteroyd band (which won in the SPCP Idol contest) and some dance groups. The party was fantastically emceed by Kuya Joven.
Xmas Gift-giving

150 indigent kids residing in the barangay received their Christmas gift packs early as SK Concepcion Dos held its annual Christmas gift-giving project at the Barangay Hall grounds. The atmosphere was made more festive as 2 clowns were on hand to entertain them and their parents, and a variety program was undertaken featuring performances from the children themselves. Free dirty ice cream was also provided for them.
The gift packs each contained bags of rice, assorted candies and snacks, toothpaste and toothbrushes, and other items. The affair was supposed to have been held in the area fronting the Barangay Hall, but due to a sudden downpour, the SK decided to transfer the venue to the Barangay Hall Roofdeck. More than 200 people swarmed the event, making crowd control the order of the day! What an eye-opener for the SK!

3rd Katipunan ng Kabataan General Assembly

It was the most successful, biggest, and best-organized Katipunan Assembly to date, with an attendance of at least 125 barangay youth, children, and guests (the first 2 averaged only 75) last Saturday, September 27, 2008, at the Barangay Hall Roof Deck! Aside from the usual reports, free snacks, speeches/reports, song & dance numbers, and parlor games conducted by a very very funny Kuya Jhoven, what made this latest Assembly special was that there were also more raffle prizes (including an Extreme Magic Sing grand prize c/o Astra Enterprises won by Andrea Panzuelo), four (4) rock bands performing consecutively, and the surprise guest appearance of the great Mr. Raimund Marasigan of Sandwich, Pedicab, and Cambio who gave a short inhspirational talk at the start of the meeting!
Raimund Marasigan Gives KK3 A Head Start

Raimund Marasigan was here! Yay!!
We were all star-struck, to put it mildly. Kuya Raimund, however, did not have any airs, was there at the Katipunan ng Kabataan Assembly ON TIME, was a picture of calm, cool, and humility, and gave a very down-to-earth inspiring talk on how important it is for anyone to do his best ("FOCUS", "PRACTICE", AND "ENJOY") to achieve his or her goals. We had wanted to announce that he was to be the KK's guest speaker in the streamers, leaflets, and promotions, but true to his simple and unassuming ways, he let it be known that he preferred to do withouut the publicity.
The most successful local rock musician in the country today, Kuya Raimund spent a lot of time answering all sorts of questions, posing for pics, autographing shirts and newsletters, and even said he would love to attend more SK events if invited, as a way of giving back to our community, in the same way that he has been helping out in a Sunday choir at the St. Paul of the Cross Parish Church the past few years.
Thank you Kuya Raimund! And to those who weren't there, too bad... Maybe next time!
Adopt-A-Scout Program

On September 20, 2008, 45 boy scouts of the SSS Village Elementary School were the beneficiaries of the SK, as they each received neckerchiefs, shirts, and carabao slides during the turnover ceremonies held at the school grounds. The SK also sponsored their BSP registration fees.
Many thanks to the Rotary Club of Marikina North led by Pres. Tess Estrellado & Rtn. Frank Robles, as well as to Ass't. Principal Josef, for helping us in this project.

Dental Medical Mission

“HAPPY TEETH, HEALTHY CHILDREN”
A joint community service project of the SK, Rotary Club of Marikina North, and the barangay council, the dental-medical mission (with free haircuts thrown in for good measure) held on 16 August 2008, at the Barangay Hall Roofdeck, can only be described as a heartwarming success. There were 177 registered medical patients (although it seemed like there were at least 200 of them, as some did not have their children listed), 85 dental beneficiaries, and 38 free haircut recipients in a span of 4 plus hours of non-stop activity and service! There were also in attendance 18 Rotarians, 9 dentists, 2 doctors, 1 nurse, 8 Philippine Army volunteer-barbers, 5 barangay officials and employees, and 7 SK officers. While 150 free toothbrushes and toothpastes were distributed, and various kinds of what appeared to be an infinite supply of basic medicine were dispensed (thanks to the Rotarians), all were in agreement that fulfillment derived from a truly effective service project was a great, great feeling!
Interbarangay Basketball Tournament 2008

“MIDGETS BASKETBALL TEAM PLACES 2ND IN INTER-BARANGAY BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT”
Our boys fought bravely and well, but in the end it was not to be. The barangay’s midget basketball team managed to barge into the championships against Barangay J. Dela Pena after a 3-way tie for first place with Barangay Parang after the semi-final round was broken through its superior quotient. But the team, coached by Kgd. Raul Catapang, had to beat J. Dela Pena twice to become champions.
And so, on 01 August 2008, at the Sto. Nino Gym, our boys did just that, squeezing past the opponent behind the stellar play of Mythical Team member Prayson Custodio, to the delight of a massive crowd of Barangay Concepcion Dos supporters who cheered for them all game long. This paved the way for a sudden-death winner-take-all match the following day. The Sta. Elena team defended against our star player well, and although the boys did their very best, they eventually lost to the worthy champions.
This is the first time in recent memory that our barangay reached the finals of this annual basketball tournament. For this, they deserve our congratulations. But a summer tournament ending up in the rainy season? Only in Marikina!!

Succesfully orgaized by the project proponent, Dulaang Bagong Sibol (DBS) headed by Mr. Carlo Tangco, the activity showcased the talents, poise, and appeal of the various contestants, in between several intermission song and dance numbers. Serving as members of the Board of Judges were Hiyas ng Marikina 3rd runner-up Rovie Gonzales, Ms. Dory Ramos, as well as Barangay Kagawads Ronnie Ortiz, Jane Zubiri dela Rosa, Dinia Llado, Dick Ifurung & Loida Solidum.

Some more updates for the months of June (and early July).
Midgets Basketball Team Makes it to the Championships!
With a close victory over Team Sta. Elena last July 2nd at the Marikina Sports Center, our barangay's midgets basketball team (led by Mythical Five member Prayson Custorio) earned a berth in the finals of the ongoing inter-barangay basketball tournament. Although tied with Barangays Parang and Dela Pena at the end of the semi-final round, the boys managed to earn a berth in the finals due to a superior quotient. The finals game will be against first placer Team Barangay dela Pena (which our boys will have to beat twice) and will held this Tuesday, July 8th, 6 P.M., at the same venue.

2nd Katipunan ng Kabataan Assembly.
With an attendance this time of 72 teenagers and guests, the Assembly held at the Barangay Hall Roofdeck last June 14th featured a number of performances by SK Kagawad Chino Villaverde's band, the awarding of a certificate of appreciation by the barangay council to SK Chair Iya for her work in the design of the barangay website, fun-filled parlor games, plenty of raffle prizes, surprise dance numbers from the Panganiban boys, and, of course, the usual committee reports by various SK officials.

2 SK College Scholars Admitted to PSBA-Manila.
Many, many thanks to PSBA-Manila and its President, Mr Jose Peralta, for granting full college scholarships to 2 Barangay Concepcion Dos residents recommended by the SK, namely, Roberto Cuartelon (from Rancho 2) and Erwin Sanuco Paddanan (residing at Rancho 3). Congratulations to our SK College Scholars!
City Hall Cites SK Website with Special Award!
At the very first Marikina Web Awards Ceremonies organized by the city government's Management information Systems Office (MISO) held last June 13th at the Teatro Marikina, SK ConDos was recognized as being the only SK in Marikina to have a website. Mayor MCF handed the Certificate of Recognition to SK officers present led by SK Chair Iya and SK Kagawads Ivy Asuncion and Ian dela Cruz. What's more, the barangay's website (http://concepciondos.marikina.gov.ph), which SK Chair Iya designed, encoded, and edited with the help of Kap. Belen Cruz, barangay Kagawads, and other barangay officials and employees, won first place in the barangay website category, besting 7 other competing barangay websites! What great news indeed!!
